At The Magnum Company, we put a lot of care into what goes inside our boxes - we are referring to the magnum of course - but we’ve come to realise just how much love people have for what’s outside them too. Our wooden boxes, once home to magnums of Champagne, claret, or gin, seem to have developed a bit of a life of their own.
We always hoped they’d be appreciated, but we didn’t expect them to become everything from spice racks to wedding card holders. Over the years, customers have shared photos, stories, and the occasional DIY masterpiece - and it’s fair to say we’re both delighted and slightly surprised by the second life our boxes have found.
So, what happens when the last drop is poured, the cork is popped, and the magnum is no more? Here are just a few ways our boxes are sticking around, long after the wine has disappeared.
The Herb Garden Favourite
This is a classic. One of the most popular reuses we’ve seen is the humble herb garden. Add a bit of soil, a few sprigs of rosemary and thyme, and you’ve got yourself the chicest windowsill in the postcode. A box once filled with champagne is now brimming with basil? We fully approve.
Storage with a Story
Receipts, cufflinks, holiday photos, bottle tops, wedding favours - our boxes seem to collect life’s bits and pieces almost as well as they once held bottles. They slide neatly onto shelves, and with a personalised logo or message on the lid, they become part of the furniture in the best possible way.
The ‘I’ll Just Keep This, Thanks’ Moment
We hear this one a lot. Someone receives a personalised magnum as a gift, opens the box, drinks the wine… and can’t quite bring themselves to throw away the container. It's too nice. Too solid. Too thoughtful. So it stays. On the sideboard, under the stairs, in the study - a reminder of a great bottle and, more importantly, a great moment.
From Weddings to Workspaces
We’ve seen our boxes turned into centrepieces at weddings, pen holders in offices, and even display boxes for small shops. One customer repurposed theirs as a memory box for their child’s first year. Another used one to store vinyl cleaning brushes (which might be the most niche use to date).
We never set out to make keepsakes - we just wanted a box that did justice to the bottle inside. But it turns out when something is made with care, it tends to stick around.
So next time you open a magnum from us, don’t be too quick to toss the box. You never know what it might become.
And if you’ve repurposed one in a clever or creative way, we’d love to see it. Send us a photo. You might just inspire the next herb garden or cufflink drawer.
