The Oil Merchant

Marqués de Valdueza Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Extremadura, Spain - 1.5l

£68

Truly great olive oil is far more than a kitchen condiment, though it should always be in balance. This extra virgin olive oil is bursting with character though it won’t overpower whatever you serve it with. Allow yourself the time to take it in before sloshing it around the frying pan willy-nilly. You’ll find gently sweet aromatics of tomatoes, basil and a touch of citrus peel. The mouthfeel is creamy and full, with some ground almond character and a subtle note of pepper on the finish.

OLIVES

Arbequina, Picual, Hojiblanca and Marisca

WHAT IT GOES WITH

With notes of vine tomatoes and basil, this oil is destined for a Caprese salad. Add a generous splash of this stuff to a salad of full-flavoured tomatoes, fresh leaf basil and creamy mozzarella.

VINEYARD

The Valdueza family estate is located in Extremadura in western Spain. Its owners spare no expense in creating the best olive oil possible, as much care and attention going into the choice of olive varieties as to the packaging of the final product. The respect for the terroir is clear, and a top agronomist advises the best olive varieties for each plot of land. Master blender Cristino Lobillo Rios has the final say on each blend, and this oil is a harmonious selection of four varieties.

N.B. Unfortunately, the Marqués de Valdueza bottles are unique in more ways than one - the shape of this particular magnum will not fit into our wooden gift boxes.
