The wartime leader was a famed enthusiast of the Pol Roger brand, and this vintage offers everything he valued in champagne. A peppery and spicy nose gives way to intense flavours of black fruit with a nutty overtone, balanced by hints of buttery toasted brioche. Acidity is medium and welcome, while the finish is long-lasting and tantalising. Truly a champagne fit to carry Churchill's name, with a rich and striking character reminiscent of the man himself.

Churchill himself declared a magnum of champagne the perfect size for lunch, especially if one party is not drinking, so consider matching this champagne with lighter bites. Oysters and seafood, especially lobster, makes a particularly fine pairing.
