Pegasus Bay

Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir 2018, Waipara Valley, New Zealand - 1.5l

£74

Hailing from the Waipara Valley of New Zealand, Pegasus Bay is a red to savour. Uncorking the magnum reveals an array of red fruit aromas, most notably cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate, balanced by a pinch of smoke and black pepper. Once it reaches the palate, Pegasus Bay blends this full and fruity taste sensation with a mild earthiness and acidic tannins that provide sufficient tang and a lengthy finish. An immaculate blend of sweet and sharp, Pegasus Bay is a warming, refreshing, and effortlessly moreish. It's the closest you'll come to a Burgundy from the southern hemisphere, while offering everything you'd expect from the sun-kissed climes of Australasia.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

The Pegasus Bay wine project was founded by the Donaldson family in 1970, bringing the techniques and standards embraced by the Burgundy region of France to New Zealand. The pinot noir grapes used for this magnum are grown using organic techniques (The Donaldson's were, and remain, pioneers in the field of sustainable viticulture) on Canterbury's Teviotdale Range. Here, the grapes benefit from protection from the elements that would otherwise blow in from the ocean, while also benefiting from long, warm days, cool nights, and a lengthy, dry Autumn. Ageing for some 18 months ahead of bottling, Pegasus Bay will also provide a unique taste experience rarely associated with its territory of growth.
