Chanson, Le Bourgogne Chardonnay

The Côte de Beaune is home to some of Burgundy’s great white wines. It’s also the stronghold of Domaine Chanson, a producer equally adept at producing entry-level Burgundy as with Premier Cru wines. No matter the wine’s appellation or classification, anything bearing the Chanson seal will offer a seriously strong quality/price ratio. This white Burgundy shows a pale gold colour and has a complex nose featuring an interplay of delicate aromas ranging from citrus fruits to herbs and honey. There’s good structure on the palate with lively acidity and a lingering, zesty finish.

WHAT IT GOES WITH

White Burgundy sometimes has a reputation as a stuffy drink, and the price tag of its most famous names doesn’t do much to help matters. At this price – and in this size – Le Bourgogne Chardonnay is your go-to picnic white, crying out to be shared with friends. Serve it up chilled with thick slices of pâté on crusty bread or mixed charcuterie and goat’s cheese, and just watch those happy faces.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

Chanson Père et Fils is a name to be reckoned with in Burgundy. Though they produce some top- tier whites from their own Premier and Grand Cru holdings in the likes of Clos des Mouches and Corton-Vergennes, their entry-level wines receive just the same care and meticulous attention to detail. Here, the Chardonnay is sourced from the Côte Chalonnaise and the Côte de Beaune
