Château des Antonins
Château des Antonins - 75cl
Perhaps no other wine region in the world does balance quite like Bordeaux. Over centuries, the Bordelais have mastered the art of blending – balancing mixtures of different grapes, plots, vineyards and ageing techniques, among many other variables – to achieve harmony in their wines. This 2016 Bordeaux Supérieur is a great example. Deep red in colour and with hints of purple, the nose is explosive with black cherry, dark chocolate and spice. On the palate, it’s got silky tannins and a lot of structure, balanced with inviting fruit and spice flavours and lively acidity. Harmony achieved, no question!
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Cabernet Franc
WHAT IT GOES WITH
This young Bordeaux has plenty of structure and silky tannins, so something robust and meaty is the order of the day. A good homemade hamburger will hit the spot nicely, as will a thick beef stew.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD
This historic Bordeaux estate owes its name to the Saint Antoine hospitaliers, a religious order who established themselves here in the 13th century. The monastic order became known for “Saint Vintage”, a vinous local specialty of herb-based wine. A lot has changed in the intervening centuries, of course. Château des Antonins has been in the de Roquefeuil family since the 1850s. Today, proprietor Geoffroy de Roquefeuil is proud to carry on the estate’s long winemaking legacy through modern techniques and a healthy respect for the past.
