Domaine du Vieux
Vieux Telegraphe, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 2017 - 1.5l
Télégramme is a deep and fruity Châteauneuf-du-Pape that has acquired quite the reputation among enthusiasts of such vintage. Ripe and bold on noise and tongue alike, this is a wine of complexity and variety. An array of tastes jostle for supremacy, including red and dark fruit, pepper and herbs, while the finish is bold and sweet. Perhaps best of all, this wine offers a lengthy and memorable aftertaste - though not one that is defined by leather, as can be a hazard of inferior Châteauneuf Du Pape. Matching density with delicacy, this is an excellent choice for a lover of rich red wine.
Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault
WHAT IT GOES WITH
Like any full-bodied and flavoursome red wine, Vieux Telegraphe is best enjoyed with an equally fulsome meal. A roast dinner is the optimum companion for this wine, though you can also pick up a delectable cheeseboard and pair it with a glass. Overall, however, poultry, game or duck would be the best match for this excellent addition to the dinner table.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD
Domaine du Vieux is the business of the Brunier family, who have been delighting Chateauneuf du Pape enthusiasts for over a hundred years. Founded in 1891 by Hippolyte, the vineyard is now in control of the sixth generation of Bruniers. Over this time, the estate has grown from a solitary hectare to an excess of 60 - most of which are dedicated to production of Vieux Telegraphe, the flagship wine of Domaine du Vieux. The vineyard respects tradition in its winemaking, with grapes destemmed and fermented. Older and younger grapes are segregated at this stage, ensuring that a balanced flavour is retained.
