Equipo Navazos

Equipo Navazos, La Bota No. 69, Amontillado - 1.5l

The good people of the Equipo Navazos know that when it comes to Sherry, there’s more – a lot more – than little old ladies sipping Bristol Cream at Christmas. They’ve known this for some time, and they’re sharing that knowledge with inquisitive wine drinkers like ourselves, one cuvee at a time. This one has been sourced from a selection of the best Amontillados stored at Calle Misericordia’s cellars in the windswept town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. It’s a dark-coloured Sherry, indicative of its average age of 17-18 years. It boasts rich aromatics of herbs, nuts and tobacco, and in the mouth it’s elegant and complex with some underlying oak structure.

  • 100% Palomino

Hailing as it does from the Spanish seaside, this Amontillado is crying out for a platter of fresh oysters or, even better, local Sanlúcar de Barrameda king prawns. If that doesn’t quite do it for you, spice things up by working in some seriously hot Chinese Sichuan elements (and feel free to forego the seafood altogether for some chicken, pork or veg).

Equipo Navazos is a humble group of friends that is often credited with the current revival of Sherry. Their shared passion for the treasures of Jerez, Sanlúcarde Barrameda, El Puerto and Montilla-Moriles brings them together, and Sherry lovers are all the better for it. They work closely with local producers to source particularly high-quality butts of Sherry, all finesse and complexity, which they then bottle and release in tiny quantities. Beyond Sherry, the team has worked with other influential winemakers such as Dirk Niepoort and Sergi Colet.
