Frerejean Frères

Frerejean Frères Premier Cru Brut - 1.5l

£78

All good things come to those who wait, as anybody that samples this champagne will testify. Made from an exquisite blend of pinot noir and chardonnay grapes grown in Avize, Côte des Blancs, this magnum is aged for a minimum of five years before being bottled and made available for purchase. The result is a fresh and crisp aroma and taste, with a citrus base soon making way for overtones of fruit, honey and almond. The champagne creates a welcomingly lengthy sensation of bubbles on the tongue that linger long after drinking, while a pleasant aftertaste of peach and apple with a hint of spice ensures that you’ll regularly seek to refill your flute for another refreshing sensation.

WHAT IT GOES WITH

Sometimes a good champagne needs no accompaniment, and that's the case here. You can enjoy a flute of this champagne as an appetiser before a meal, or it makes a wonderful welcome drink while breaking the ice at a social event. Naturally, though, there are also food matches for this magnum. A risotto, in particular, will bring out the flavours of this bottle, especially one that contains a strong and smoky chorizo. With this in mind, a well-aged and fine Iberico ham is also a natural accompaniment. However, such is the unique taste composition of this champagne, it also suits a chicken roast.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

Frerejean Frères is not yet a household name, as it's a comparatively new addition to world of champagne. This is likely to change over time, however. Guillaume, Richard and Rodolphe Frerejean-Taittinger, a trio of brothers from the celebrated Tattinger lineage, have returned to the world of champagne after a period of time away from the industry, While the Tattinger Group was acquired by American investors Starwood Capital back in 2006, the brothers continued to create champagne for friends and family as a passionate hobby. Having established a new vineyard in Avize, Frerejean Frères blend traditional production methods with modern innovation to create their unique signature champagne to enthral enthusiasts.
