Coto de Imaz, Rioja Reserva
No wine region marries fruit and wood quite like Rioja. This one has a deep ruby red colour with hints of orange peeping through. On the nose, there’s a healthy balance of fresh red fruit along with the nuanced smoky and vanilla notes from the wine’s time in new American oak. In the mouth, this is velvety and round with smooth tannins and lively acidity. The wine’s finish is soft, balanced and lasts quite a moment longer than you might expect.

ABOUT THE VINEYARDFrom humble beginnings in Rioja Alavesa in 1970, El Coto has become one of the biggest and best-known producers in Rioja. Boasting more than 700 hectares under vine, El Coto grows grapes in all three of Rioja’s major subzones (Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa) and sources additional grapes from small producers where necessary. Head winemaker is Cesar Fernandez, who oversees production from a state-of-the-art winery, intelligently designed with temperature control and gentle handling of the grapes as the top priorities.
